Latest and Greatest RC Project

This is the latest project to come out of the shop.  My cat Cracky thought it was the mothership and is waiting to be beamed aboard.  It's a 48" span disc with ASP 1.08 glow engine for power, upgraded to OS 120 4-stroke since the pic.  All up weight is 8lbs.  This plane flies extremely well and is hoverbatic.  It is capable of doing some very interesting maneuvers such as precision spins.  From a 30deg nose up hover it's possible to spin in either direction and stop the spin at the exact same heading returning BACK to the hover.  It does a great Elevator which can be continued to a landing.  It will do a pirouetting Elevator to a landing.  It will deadstick very nicely.  Most people are surprised to see it follow a landing pattern to a landing during a deadstick.  The thing to remember with any low aspect ratio aircraft like the deltas or the disc's, is that the best glide speed is much higher than the minimum sink speed.  Minimum sink speed won't get you anywhere on a low-AR design.  So if the engine quits dive it to a landing and you'll be surprised how flat the glide gets at the higher speed.  I'm not saying it will glide well, just that the best glide is not slow like on regular airplanes.

What's NEXT?

Next will be a 16' span single seat flying disc.  I'm certain it will fly great and be a unique flying machine.  This full-size machine will have the same cubic wing loading as the model and be under 600lbs.
