Welcome to Hoverbatics.com, my personal home
page about flying. I've been flying RC planes for 23
years. I got my Private Pilot license
in 2003. I still enjoy both sports very
much.
The Star-Lite Experimental
page shows the single-seat experimental plane I'm flying
this year (2005). It's a lightweight single-place
economy cruiser powered by a 40hp Rotax 447. It burns
only 2gph at 100mph which makes for a lot of inexpensive flying.
The Flying Adventures
page shows a
few videos and pictures from daily flying fun.
The RC Aircraft page shows a
few of the unusual R/C designs I've built. The disc
models are surprisingly good fliers and I've built about
five different sizes including a 48" span glow powered
version.
The Aerial Videos page shows
some of the videos taken from a 100mph 36" Force One delta from Balsa USA. It has a
520 line CCD camera with a 2.4ghz downlink that produces digital quality aerial
video. Military style rolling vertical climbs to 1000' and low level
passes are captured from the aerial view. It takes a
strong stomach to watch them as the roll rate is about
720deg/sec.
My old web page 200MPH can
still be found at http://hoverbatics.com/200MPH/
It features my Radio Control Lawnmowers, a beautiful 1/4
scale KR-2S model, and some flying adventures near Kennedy
Space Center and in Tom Crawford's KR-2. The R/C
Lawnmower is funny yet practical.
What does Hoverbatics mean? "Hovering
Aerobatics". This refers to 3D flying which is an extreme form of
aerobatics performed below the stall speed of the aircraft, including the Torque
Roll, Harrier, and Elevator maneuvers, and extreme aerobatics performed by a helicopter
including the Chaos. I've been enjoying flying 3D with a UCD model plane
with Saito .91 for power and also with a Raptor 50 heli. To see what
3D heli flying is all about, visit:
